Homework Expectations  Home BK Celebrations

Homework is assigned on Monday through Thursday nights of each week.  Total time of completion should range from 40 to 50 minutes.  Please notify me if your child is taking considerably longer, or not enough time is needed to complete homework assignments.

Students can expect a weekly math P.O.W (Problem of the Week) which should be completed by the last day of each school week.  These problems are designed to encourage logical and critical thinking.  Each student is expected to try the weekly P.O.W..  Problem solving strategies are then shared at the end of the week so that the students may further learn from this experience.

Spelling homework can be expected each night.  Students are assigned  work in their spelling book - Spell-It Write!, asked to use their spelling words in a writing activity, or requested to practice spelling the words orally or by writing them in preparation for the test.  The test will typically be given each Friday.  Students will note in their planbooks any changes in testing dates due to holidays or other conflicts.

Homework in math, social studies, reading and writing vary daily.  Students record homework each day in their planbook.  Monthly book projects are also assigned to increase proficiency in reading comprehension, writing reports and to improve time management skills.  A copy of each month's book project may be found on this website. (See the link below.)  A student may elect to do a different project idea, but he or she must get teacher approval by the designated deadline.

My overall expectations of homework are:  1) Completed assignments represent the student's abilities; 2) Completed assignments are neat and organized; and 3) All assignments must be submitted on time.  Occasionally conflicts will occur to interfere with the timely submission of homework.  I encourage parents to send me a note to indicate any special circumstances.
