Biographical Sketch

I have been teaching mathematics at the high school level for 39 years, 35 of those years have been at Cincinnati Country Day School.  My undergraduate degree in mathematics is from Franklin and Marshall College.  I have a masters degree in mathematics from Xavier University (OH) and a second masters from the University of Oregon in computer science education.  I have taught some computer classes during my career at CCDS.  Currently, I am the chair of the mathematics department. During the 2007-2008 school year, I am teaching Algebra 1 (Grade 9), Senior Trigonometry, Algebra 2 Honors (2 Sections), Introduction to Calculus (first semester) and Statistics (second semester)..

I  love to travel with my wife.  I have visited all fifty states and more than a dozen foreign countries.  The US National Parks are a tremendous national treasure and my favorite national park is the Grand Canyon which is incredibly spectacular.   During a recent trip, I discovered that Death Valley National Park is a wonderful place to visit and the hiking tails are exhilarating.  These are just two of the great national parks that dot the United States.

My favorite foreign cities are Paris, Venice and Rome.
During the summer of 2007, I was fortunate enough to travel to Italy with very generous support from the Patterson Summer Travel Grant Stipend. (Click on the previous sentence to see the slides)

I enjoy gardening during the summer months.  I grow vegetables mostly, but I do enjoy flowers, too.  Tulips are among my favorite flowers.
